Default Laminated L2

looking at 23,000 range lifter with L2 barrels. I see they used about 40-50 sets before they went to L1. Logic tells me they were using up a supply of higher quality laminated barrels on grade 2 guns. Any ideas? Dave

Do you have pictures of the pattern and of the barrel flats?

Was it Gunbroker auction number 456807330 ?

Incidentally, L2 is the grade of the gun. Laminated Steel Grade 2 Parker.

That's it Dean, I opened up the parker story and found some info in grade 2. I'm wondering if that is a parker made laminate barrel. The bands around the barrel look to be 3 different pilings.

With the P stamped on the right barrel flat where the barrel steel type is located, there is speculation that these barrels were some of the very few that were manufactured by Parker Bros. and discussed by superintendent Charles A. King in his testimony that PB made barrels in 1877 and 1878.
I have one such gun which also has three distinctly different pilings as well as the P stamp and two other members have examples in their collections. I have asked for "Help" in Parker Pages below my editorial for the last three issues. Nobody has responded to date.

There is no proof of this actually being on of the barrels made by Parker Bros but everything points to that conclusion.

The first Parker I saw these barrels on was a graded 14 ga. lifter and the next one I saw with these barrels was a Grade C lifter. Mine is a Grade D lifter.

The one you reference is the first Grade 2 gun I have seen with these barrels.

I wonder who bought the gun in question....?

According to the serialization book, they were making these in groups of 5 and 10, so assuming they were all made the same there might be more survivors. I had the only bid.

Do any of you guys have a picture of these barrels in refinished condition or nice original condition? I also find it interesting that it has pheasants engraved on it with plenty of engraving for a grade 2, but with a solid steel butt plate.
