Default "Fish Tail" Lever?

Now that I've gotten my GH back from the spectacular job Buck Hamlin did on the barrels and Clint Meier did on the stock, I'm curious. How common were the fish tail levers like mine's got? It sure add personality if not value.

They were put on a number of the earlier hammerless guns for unknown reasons.

They are less plentiful, but not really rare. They are seen on some of the early hammerless Parkers and some of the toplever hammer Parkers, as Brian says.

One feature of the fishtail toplever is that it allowed a hunter afield to carry the gun loaded but broken open with both hammers cocked; when a bird got up, all that was necessary was to close the gun quickly and pull the trigger(s) for a shot.

And it makes us wonder why Parker Bros. ever discontinued the lifter...
