Default 2 5/8" chamber for 2 3/4" shells...

So my understanding is that Parker short-chambered (2 5/8") their shotguns for a better gas seal with the typical period (say 1920s & 30s) 2 3/4" paper shotshells, is this correct? Or were they intended to be shot with 2 1/2" shotshells? Thanks!

Brian, you are correct.... 2 5/8" chambers for 2 3/4" paper hulls.

Thanks Dean. Are there any accepted limitations for the dr./oz. of 2 3/4" shells based on frame size?

Probably not, when you consider that 1/2 frame trap guns were made in the days of 3 1/4 dram equivalent 1 1/4 ounce trap loads. Any frame size should handle sensible 1 1/8 ounce loads for a lifetime.

Around the time frame the 12-gauge progressive burning powder high velocity loads (like Western's Super-X) came out, I believe there were some of the lighter (1-frame?) 12-gauges marked on the barrels "Standard Velocity Only" or some such?
