We have to be one of one with the shooters and another fellow and I dress in western clothes and spend some time talking about the old west and the cowboy code. We talk about the mountain men and the Cowboys many of who were not much older than our scouts. Kit Carson Billy Dixon Wyatt Earp. For our black youth we lead them through Texas Ranger Sam Bass , Jesse Chisum of trail fame and the Buffalo Soldiers. We talk about the guns and between us we show and talk about an old Sharps 40-65 , a Winchester 1886 in the same , an 1881 Parker shot gun, a Colt Navy and my old 1900 Colt SAA.

Then we have them shoot They have western handles or we give them one and we have a scenario for the day. We get lots of grins and lots of questions about these neat old guns.

So we maybe step them back in time for a while.
