The change from the cap with the checkered oval to the Parker Bros. Meriden Conn. cap actually began to occur in about the mid-1890’s. I have and have had unaltered Parkers dating to 1897 with the cap with the logo. And there are late hammer guns (early to mid-teens) with the cap with the logo. It wasn’t an abrupt change.
