I love the snow. It's snowing here now in Pawling, NY. I have a friend who plows me out and does the walkways gratis, so I don’t have to bother with it. I like to snowmobile and check on the deer herd. The fields are covered with snow but they still are hitting the sorghum and timothy fields. There are dig marks all over the timothy fields where they dig to reach it.

We generally don’t have any winter kills on the property but if we continue to get snow and it piles up without any thawing, we could have a problem. I hope not. I hate the thought of deer starving to death. I’ve seen it and its not a good memory. You can generally tell if a deer is starving since their hair stands straight out giving them a fuzzy appearance. Also, if you cut into their bones, the marrow will be red and not white.

Although I love to see a snowfall, I’m hoping we get a thaw soon so that the snow doesn’t continue to pile up.
