as we talked about last week- they may be here - but they are totally gun shy- the neighbor's pond, that the sitting room over looks (which rarely has birds this time of year because it is normally frozen) has been loaded with mallards this past week -

Macallan has sat up when outside and listened a couple times when a raucous hen has sounded off

but just now- some one down the road a ways fired a gun- one shot (its the last day of muzzleloader here)- far enough off to be well muffled- but -instantly - the whole group lifted off at the sound and headed up the field- maybe to the other neighbor's pond, or over the hill to the river.
