After removing a layer of what looked like clear cerakote and a layer of a rust neutralizer, the barrel had external pitting completely covering the length of both tubes.
I know that whether to refinish or not can be subjective, but this barrel had been terribly neglected by a previous owner, and “restored” by someone. It needed a lot of help.
Striking and polishing is the part of what I do that I enjoy the least. It’s dirty and makes my hands ache.
Here is a “during” pic with 95% of the pits removed, in the white, finally ready to start the process. I measured periodically, and this 2frame had plenty of thickness.
Have patience, and I will have “after” pics in a couple months.
