You should be sure that you keep the barrel lugs and corresponding parts of the 'receiver' free of foreign matter, eg., dust, seeds, grit, powder residue, etc. and keep the articulating surfaces of the hinge area as well as other contact surfaces lubricated to avoid unnecessary wear.
