I gave up on the modern 12 gauge and now hunt ducks and geese with the short ten using my WSF bismuth load (

Based on my experience, the WSF bismuth load is more effective on ducks and geese than modern steel loads. Perhaps the higher density of bismuth and the better patterns achieved with the short ten compensate for the lower velocity (as compared to the higher velocity modern steel loads). I do not believe you will notice a drop in range or performance if you move to the short ten.
