Maine Turkey

1 Attachment(s)
It’s been a long time since I hunted turkeys in Maine, my partner has not been able to hunt for quite a few years due to health issues, so I decided I would give it a shot this year with my new 10 gauge.
The limit in Maine now is 2 birds per season.
So my plan was to shoot whatever we called in and then take time to get a bigger Tom either later in the day or another day later in the season.
We called in 5 jakes across a field about 200 yards as they got to with 25 yards I picked out the biggest one. Unfortunately I got that one but one beside and behind that I didn’t see also took a lethal hit and dropped.
So much for the plan always next year.

Gotta watch out for those doubles.. Cuts your fun time in half.

Right about that Bruce but I’ve only taken my springtime two-bird limit twice before. It was a mistake that I killed 2 with 1 shot but I do love the breast meat.

Here in NH we can take two toms is certain WMU's. BUT you have to register the first bird killed before you can shoot the second. Need to be real careful:)

Yup but not so in Vt… plus we can hunt on Sunday.

A two for one deal, now that’s efficiency! Funny thing how plans work out some time. Glad you gave turkey hunting in Maine another go. Congrats on the hunt.

The only other time we doubled was with my youngest son the same situation. A nice Tom came in and there was a jake behind him and he got both. We didn’t even know he got the jake until we picked up his Tom it was stone dead about 5 yards behind the Tom.
Yes I was glad to get back at it again this year. I had only hunted about dozen times or so but, I was able to get all my sons and my dad all to experience turkey hunting. We had a lot of good hunts especially on the youth day season. This year I had also taken my Parker trap gun and patterned it. The choke was .043 tight full and it patterned well out to 30 plus yards with just 1 1/4 oz number 6 but it had to sit this round.

Congrats on the double. I've never done it with turkeys, but did accidently on 2 deer once.
