I had never really paid attention to it but Remington era GHEs certainly have better birds than the thirty to forty years earlier "Flying Turnips."

Maybe not up to modern day engraver's standards but quite an improvement from the earlier "folk art."

Hahahahah. I think I have an early GH with things that look like warped eggs with oddly spaced eyes.

I believe Randy's GHE birds were engraved by Runge but the examples Dave shows are not familiar to me but they don't look like the work of Runge, to me anyhow.

Here is an example from a late SBT that was an unfinished gun at the start of the war.
I believe it was finished by DelGrego Runge after the war.

That certainly looks like Runge’s engraving.
