BPI BPD 10 gauge wads

9 Attachment(s)
A friend gave me a bag of the BPI BPD 10 gauge wads a year or two ago and I’ve been trying to figure out a way to put them to use . I don’t shoot steel shot at all which seems to be their intended purpose . So today while working on 10 gauge 1 1/8 ounce loads I decided to load two and shoot them in the snail to make sure they atleast go bang and have a little recoil . Which they passed no problemo ! To start with cut the wads down to 1 1/4” , technically they were nothing but shot cups to begin with as far as I’m concerned . I came to the desired length after dropping an ounce and an eighth of shot in them and seeing where to cut them off . I also loaded a few with un-slit cups and about the same number slit having four petals . So I took unfired and fired Cheddarcheese and RST hulls all primed with Cheddarcheese 209’s . Then dropped 19.2 of Green Dot . Took the hull out of the loader and put a 10 gauge gas seal over the powder followed by three 10 gauge 1/8” card wads and then the trimmed BPI shot cup followed by 1 1/8 ounces of 7 1/2’s and a six point crimp . I’ll see if I can’t get out to the gun club in the very near future and see how they do slit vs un slit . Bear in mind this isn’t something I plan on doing all the time but rather a way to use up these shot cups and 10 gauge card wads .

That’s on you I’ve never loaded bird shot on a 10 gauge over 1 1/2 ounces . Granted I’ve done a few things with buck and slugs in short 10’s that are near or are 2 ounces but no 3 ounce for me LOL’s !

First time I ever tried slitting wads . I’ve yet to shoot these also slit or Unslit , hopefully soon . The first tower shoot of the season is the last Sunday of this month . I might take three slit and three unslit to see if I can hit pheasants Partidge or pigeons with them . Of course tower shoot loads will be 1 1/4 ounces

Id stay away from unslit. 4 petals, 3/4 the way down seems to be the base line.

Normally I’d agree with you 100% . But since I started loading for the 8 gauge and using Remington SP-8’s I dunno . SP-8’s are unslit and I’ve used them that way with very good performance .

This coming week I’m gonna take another stab at loading some 3 1/2” 10’s for the fluid steel Belgian barrels on my Grade 2 hammer gun . Nothing horrendous but maybe 1 1/2 ounces of lead . And I may try some of these wads as well as SP-10’s and the PT-1044 .
