Cleaning grime in action

So do y'all worry with cleaning out the grime in the action area? I tried using toothbrush and hoppes but it didn't get me very far. So what do y'all use or suggest?

By action I would probably be more correct saying the clockwork....

Hoppes is a bore cleaner and can damage some finishes. I have used Breakfree CLP (Cleans, Lubricates and Protects) since my days in the Army. It breaks down the crud and protects the metal as well as or better than anything else I have ever used.

Ballistol.

Drop it in a can of kerosine and let it soak. Then use a small brush and some compressed air.

Hope the original poster knows he will have to remove the stock before he does that!

Stock has been off 3 weeks I am refinishing it.

Well knowing that information the soak in the diesel fuel seems reasonable followed by blowing out the loosened crud and degreasing with aerosol break cleaner.

If you have access to one an ultrasonic cleaner with soap and water works really well, yet you probably want the action totally disassembled for this.
