small bore flinter

saw this at an antique show last weekend - unfortunately, it wasn't a good location to get good photos (the camera gear was in the truck anyway, so this is just a cell phone shot) and i did not have any measuring tools with me.
but still, I thought some might enjoy a teaser picture of a true survivor a small bore (looks to be about a .410) flintlock double shotgun barrels were about 30", bores looked good with a key ring flashlight Ketland locks - twist barrels - rib marking only says "London" weight wise - just a guess but 7 to 7 1/2 pounds or so The modestly figured wood looked very good, no noticeable powder burn on the wood behind the frizzen area, so unless it was refinished long ago, it wasn't used heavily anyway - here is at least a peak at it |
A smooth bore intended as a fowling piece?

Everything in the pic seem to have price tags on them... may we presume this piece went home with you?

sadly no, or else there would be better pictures i didn't write it down, but I think his not sure I want to sell it price was in the $3400-3500 range he generally has nice stuff, I still kick myself for hesitating on a 28 bore percussion from a few years ago that was gone when I went back. But I have bought a few from him including this 15 bore that is not too embarrassing to be seen with |
That flint double is too cool! I would love to find one at a show. Oh man the rabbit hunts to be had and puddle jumping wood ducks with that would be too neat. I hate squirrels enough to fog up the woods with one too. Thanks for sharing and getting me excited for the coming seasons

That is something I would like to get at some point. I might have had to take that one home with me. I have a "few" percussion doubles(10, 12,14, 16 and 20 gauge). I have a 10 gauge double flint fowler that is a beast of a gun with 40" barrels.
A small bore double flint I could take out once or twice a year would be wonderful. Someone had one on GI that was a 20 gauge(22 gauge actually) that I should have bought. I talked to them a few times, but they were firm on their price. I wish I would have just written the check as they say... |
