This SBT appears to have seen many days of shooting. I think it has been re stocked (no serial number under the trigger guard). It has been sleeved, new case colors, ejector hammer slips sometimes when opening. But I will enjoy it anyway. When targets are hit, they are destroyed. It is evidently an early one.

Thanks
Bo Butler

It's a joy to see a well executed refinished and restocked gun. Really nice gun, thanks for posting the photos.

Bob, you've a real nice gun there. I saw it at national gun day in Louisville a while back (see my post about 5 below yours). I asked for a number check because I thought it might qualify as the earliest known example. I searched myself and found it wasn't the earliest but one of them for sure. It was a real eye catcher. Congrats!

It makes you wonder under what cercumstances the barrel needed to be sleeved. Must have been blown out at one time.

The buttstock does look like a replacement for sure. But, i would wager that it may likely be a Remington replacement. The look of the finish and the comb flute looks very similar to other Remington restocks that I have seen. Does it have a Meriden grip cap on it?

Or a Del Grego restock.

I have ordered a letter on this gun. Will check the grip cap when I get back in town and post a picture. I never thought about the restocking being factory work. The two screws holes on the hinge end of the fore end iron were not used for the new wood.

I don't believe the grip cap would be indicative of anything if it is a restock.

In the past year i have worked on 3 guns that were certainly Remington restocks and they all had Remington grip caps. Not parker caps.

Due to that, i was asking out of curiosity.

Pretty sure it does not have a Remington grip cap. I think it's a plain Jane brown cap

Brian, I believe yours is a very late Remington cap - certainly later than this one.
