Uncle Bill's VH 16 Gauge Ready At Last

2 Attachment(s)
Last fall my cousin gave me two of her fathers Parkers. One is a VH 20 which was ready to go with the exception of a chip in the toe of the stock and the other a VH 16 that was missing most of the screws, the cocking lever and the trigger guard bow. Plus she gave me a set of DH 12 gauge barrels for a #2 frame. I've been shooting the 20 and want to make sure the rest of the 12 is not in my cousins house before I have the barrels fitted to the #2 framed VH whose original barrels are the property of PGCA via Sherman Bell.
I sent the 16 gauge to DelGrego to replace the parts and screws as well as to regulate the Miller single trigger. Per the "Book" this gun had a pistol grip stock, but as it did not have the original triggers I had a straight trigger guard bow made. It just returned from Show-Me Gunstocks. Donnie picked up another fine piece of scrap wood from the floor and did a wonderful job.....

Harry,Very nice work! What type of butt treatment? Checkered?

Harry Collins 05-08-2010 09:10 AM

Dave,

Yes, a checkred butt with the following dimentions: 14 1/4" LOP, 2 1/2 DAH, no cast and 3" of pitch. It comes up like a dream. My horrid attorney friend and sporting clays partner is in Peru attending a wedding so I'll just shoot a little skeet with Uncle Bill's 16 gauge this afternoon.

Very nice Harry. You'll like it in the Dove fields I'm sure.

Rich,

I'll save it for late season dove and quail. I'm not sure how it is choked. Guess I'll go shoot the creek. That will give me a good indication. I would shoot the side of one of the barns, but there is no more room.

May I suggest a patterning board? :p Turtles, frogs and small fish may be harmed in using the creek:rolleyes:

Was able to slip away this afternoon and shoot. At about 35 yards the left barrel was a little tighter than the right. From what patterns I have witnessed upon the water I would say these barrels are tight. You dont have to keep score if you don't miss. I did miss, but out of 100 the misses were less than 10. I think I may have a few other broken stocked Parkers restocked.
