Damascus, Laminated, or... Both?

Check out the barrel steel engraving on the rib of this english hammer gun. Never heard of "Lamascus Steel" before. Anyone else? Based on the look of the engraving, I suspect that it was recut at one time and the barrels have been re-browned.

I've never seen that before. The word must have been invented by the engraver... maybe he misread the instructions.

or the D was worn enough it was thought to be an L when recut
interesting one of a kind piece |
That is more my thinking since the engraving on the rib all looks re-cut.
I see no evidence of the rest of the "D" it much have been pretty wiped out. I wish I coukd share with you who the maker is, but i do not know. It is simply marked "Superior Lamascus (Damascus) Steel" on the rib annd only "Field" on each lock plate. It is a very nicely fitted and finished gun though. Great engraving. |
How 'bout T. Barker "Daminated Steel"

Drew,
I think the one you posted and the one i have here might be the same gun. |
Brian the grade 3 you have of mine was ordered with no dolls head as per letter, a little unusual for a late gun don't you think, Gary
|
Serious competition shooters sometimes ordered their Parkers without the dolls head rib extension, believing it to be a hindrance of sorts.

The former owner was a competition shooter, he shot at Wimbelton according to his obit did not know they shot at that venue, also the gun was his fathers he must have ordered it, the family is sending me some more info I hope, it is a hammer gun, Gary
