Brass shells

For anyone interested, Magtechs can be crimped with RCBS dies from Brownells, part # 99060 for the dies and 99061 for the shell holder. You'll need a press that will allow you to use 1 1/4x14 dies. Something like a Lee cast iron press will do the job. I had a lot of trouble finding the part numbers on the Brownell web site. It acts like they don't have them - found it by accident. A friend has everything and is going to try them. I always had trouble getting good reloads with nitro powders and have always thought, right or wrong, it was because of the crimp. I notice military buckshot brass 12ga shells are crimped. It's such a small crimp I think you could get a number of reloads out of it, and if the end got ragged it could be shortened a little bit and be good to go. Understandably, there would be playing around with the height of the cushion area to get it close enough to the top for a good small crimp. Midway has the dies for a little bit more.

I found something on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RPOJWfgpDw that shows the crimp. I'm afraid his over shot card is too far away from the crimp to keep it in place as well as keep pressure on the load. Good looking crimp though.

I don't know what he's thinking. A little more cushion wad and it would be where it should be. What does he think he's crimping it for ? Just the rounded lip ? He wouldn't have to glue anything if he'd do it right. U tube can be a wonderful thing if people would just think first.

Too right on the depth of the overshot card below the crimp. That's what the various thicknesses of cards were made for "back in the day", to get the load situated in the right place WRT to the case mouth.

Well, my friends first attempt wasn't to successful. He wrinkled the end. I'm not a metallic reloader, but ask if he used a lube - no. Now he reloads a lot of pistol and rifle shells so I thought he knew better. Ah, maybe next week when he comes to shotgun he'll have tried it again with lube on the case.

The RCBS Rock Chucker press accepts 1 1/4" dies, by removing the 7/8" bushing.

I believe that's the press he used, or a cast iron Lee.

Paul give him a can of Imperial Die sizing wax. Brass troubles go away with little bit of lube .
