AH Fox Stock Repair
5 Attachment(s)
A friend of mine asked me to keep my eye out for a 16 Ga double at the Southern and he sort of wanted a Fox. Came across this custom 2 barrel set which he took a real liking to immediately so he acquired it. Opening day of the SD pheasant season he broke the gun down to eject the spent shells and the stock just snapped in two at the wrist. Of course he was sick. As it turned out the stock had a poor layout along with some other issues as brought to his attention by the stock man. In any case we sent his gun off for repairs and it was returned today. Still amazes me every time I see a stock repair like this. Of course my friend is absolutely giddy as he had no clue it could be repaired.
A few before and after pics if you will..... |
Do you know who did the work by chance?
Sure do. Dave VandenBrand.
Thank you!!!
Dave can do some nice work. He once did a forarm for a DHE 16 for me, it came out very nice.
Dave is truly brilliant! One of those under the radar gunsmiths that never rings his own bell.
Very nice job.

Anyone have long term experience shooting guns with this type repair? Do they usually hold up?
Yes they do.
If done properly by an experienced stocker, they are often stronger than the original wood. Still, I would be reticent to shoot no more than 1 oz. loads through any wood stocked double in this age category. |
does this stock man do new stocks as well? if not, do you guys have a recommendation? I have a William Evans I would like to have a stock made for. Looked in FAQ with no luck. thank you
