Amoskeag Parkers
Did anyone bid or get any of the Parkers in the Amoskeag Auction yesterday(Aug. 29-sale 127). I had some interest in Lot 20-a VH 28ga but it was more of a shooter grade gun than a collector grade gun that I am looking for. It still went way over estimate(7000 to 9000) at $17625.00 with bidders fee. There was another 28 ga.(lot 90)) that was pretty rough that brought $7050.00. There were some other Parker lots as well : Lot 8-SC grade--Lot 47 VHE 20 with beavertail forearm - Lot 9-Trojan 20ga and I think a few others.

I wanted to drive up (45 minutes away) for a preview of the lots but the only day I had was last Saturday and they're not open on Sat & Sun.

Dean, you are lucky to be so close. I am real close to Morphy's and I seldom go beyond my computer desk. Amoskeag sold a fire damaged 3" Model 21 for $90.00. I wonder how bad that one was. Maybe it was under water damaged. They didn't say.

It really is helpful if you can actually get your hands on these guns before bidding. I’ve been to Morphys several times and guns I would have bid on were ruled out after a thorough examination for various reasons that only a personal inspection would reveal. I did bid yesterday on lot 20 the VH 28 ga. As I thought it was a pretty nice gun and had 28 inch barrels. I thought I had it at 14K but it went to 15K at the last second. It was 16k back to me and I dropped out. I thought the VHE 20 was a decent buy at $3500 plus the juice. A Remington gun with SST and beavertail made it attractive.

I have a Parker Vh 28ga for sale on page 2 here on this site. I could have saved the winner of the bid 3k. You never know...

Amoskeag needs to improve their customer relations prior to the auction. I asked for additional measurement details on two lots 3 weeks before the auction----no response!!
The major decoy auction house has waved the internet bidding fees due to Covid and they guarantee their descriptions 100%. I believe the gun action houses have plenty of room for improvement now that on-site sales are becoming a thing of the past. I did like the GH and DH 20ga damascus guns and felt they were nice bargains. |
I agree with Craig regarding their customer relations. Most auction houses provide catalogs to previously successful bidders, but not Amoskeag.
Generally their descriptions are thorough, though occasionally wrong in critical details. A member bid on and won the 20ga. VHE that was listed as a 2 frame, but added additional pictures much later that clearly showed it was an 0 frame. Craig, what did the DH damascus gun hammer for? |
5000.

Early on, it seemed someone was bidding under the influence.
