Interesting repair

I stole this photo from a post in the Upland Journal board. Quite a combo stock extender/comb riser too!

I've a Parker with the same repair but, it was brass on both sides and there were many small screws.

Sometimes these plates were not a repair, but reinforcement to prevent damage.

The summer issue of Parker Pages has a story featuring a small bore DH with a brass plate repair very similar to the one pictured.

But how 'bout that lace-on boot?

Also called Selous plates after the noted safari hunter Frederick Selous. He did this to a lot of his firearms for added strength.

The last one i owned with plates like this was a heavy PH 12g. Both plates came up to the metal on top and bottom and both sides have about 12 screws in them. All the screw heads were indexed and finished flush with the plate.
When i removed the action from the stock, i found no evidence of damage to the wood.

My GH stock with the plates was horribly broken but, remained solid and serviceable.

Thanks for the information; I do remember seeing those in pics of him. I'd guess these were a repair though, based on the three screw or pins in the cheek.
