What loads are safe?

I’ve recently picked up a new to me Trojan 12ga no2 frame. The gun was made in 1927 and is in fantastic shape and has 2 3/4” chambers. My question is will heavier loads be ok in this gun? I’m looking at going to South Dakota this fall and would love to take it with me.

Yes, providing the barrels are sound, that gun will shoot any 2-3/4” shell you want to use.

No steel shot. Everything else should be okay. Also, I would recommend staying at or below 1 1/8 oz, 3 1/4 dram, not just in this gun, but any side by side.

My main concern is the very old wood. If it should double fire it can crack the stock especially with high power loads. I learned this the hard way. My favorite shooter for many years appeared to not have ever been taken apart and began to double. Only needed a good cleaning. Live and learn. Should have had it cleaned 20 years ago. Gerald
