Help identifying hammer gun
5 Attachment(s)
Hello. I recently bought this gun at an estate sale. It says parker on the side but I'm not sure if it's a real parker. I've attached photos. Serial number must be 13 because it's on every part. Hoping someone on here knows something about it. Thanks

It's not a Parker Brothers shotgun, the gun this organization was formed in celebration of.
It looks like possibly a Belgian import. . |
Ok. Thank you. I'm guessing this gun is not worth much then. Probably just make it a wall hanger.

That’s a good choice.

I have not seen a Belgian "Parker" knock-off with a 'PF' mark
http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../414317837.jpg The maker could have been Pirlot & Frésart http://www.littlegun.be/arme%20belge...esart%20gb.htm or Pirlot Frères http://www.littlegun.be/arme%20belge...reres%20gb.htm It is a lower quality gun with Twist barrels and does not carry smokeless powder proof. You might squirt some epoxy in the firing pin holes before hanging it up to protect the unknowing from themselves. |
Or just remove the firing pins by taking out the retaining screws in the breech balls. This would not damage the gun, and if you ever wanted to take up reloading you could make some VERY low pressure loads that MAY be usable in this gun. If you go this route have a good gunsmith measure the barrel wall thickness and assess whatever pitting may be present in them. The gun may not be worth the effort, but there are other 100+ year old JABC's out there being used.

Guns like that make great wall art.
If you're looking for a shooter, I would go for a more main stream choice, like Lefever, LC Smith, or Parker. Safety should always be your number one priority in a shooter. That said, hammer guns are a lot of fun. |
I'd be tempted to make a stand lamp out of it by making a wood or steel base and then put a 1/4" black pipe in the base long enough to lash the gun to and than put a cord through the pipe and a socket on top with a shade. Wouldn't damage the gun and would be a good use for it.
