Factory safety delete?
 

Hi there guys ...new Forum member here. Just picked up my first Parker side-by-side, a 1910.
I've been doing some research on my own and that brought me here to the forums and I hope to learn a lot from your experience.

My question is this: How often were Parker's made with a factory safety deletes? Because that's what mine has. And I was just curious about the rarity of that.

It is not uncommon to see Parkers in various gauges that were factory safety deletes. Just like most everything else, they appeal to some shooter/collectors and not so much to others. Welcome to the forum and I encourage you to join the PGCA! It is a great organization to be part of.

Tell us about your gun Adam. Gauge, barrel length, stock configuration, chokes, etc. The serial # would be most useful as well, pics are really great, especially a close up of the safety. With that we could determine if it was actually Parker Bros work or otherwise. Guns configured as such were usually relegated to live bird or target shooting. In such a scenario the shooter did not want to risk losing a target to a safety that had been inadvertently engaged. Also if records are available on your gun I would suggest a research letter be ordered, after you join the PGCA of course.

The two common configurations found in guns with no safety are Factory Original, which have no slot, no engraving indicating 'SAFE', etc, and those whose safety were removed, subsequent to leaving the factory. Those usually have a filler in the safety button slot.
Factory 'No Safety' options usually also do not have the jacketed rocker, though in one case, I have seen a gun whose stock was, by all accounts, original, yet had the inletting for the jacketed rocker link.

Most factory safety delete guns will have a filled in slot that is then engraved over with scroll.

I have attached some pictures for you to review.

Upon really close inspection. It looks like the slot was filled in where the safety was supposed to be. I'm not sure of the chokes.

It is a 12 gauge with a serial number 149889.

I bought it because my grandfather had a 1906 with very similar engraving and I just loved it.

Does this shed any light on it?

Adam your gun is a Grade 2 or GH, the "H" being hammerless. It is in the book and there are surviving records for it so I would strongly urge you to join the PGCA and order a research letter. The book shows it as a 30" extractor gun. As far as the safety or lack of goes it looks absolutely correct to me.

Also has a Beavertail which is unusual I suppose for that gun. And a PGCA letter would be a must! Interesting gun Adam.

Apparently I misunderstood you when you first explained it to me.
I do believe I am correct regarding the link inletting, however.
