The Smoky Smell of History

Just wanted to share...

I'm taking advantage of a rainy day here in RI to fit a CSMC replacement butt plate to a 1905 VH.

The wood had that old dust and dirt smell and appearance. A little cleaning and wow!- I unleashed a heady smell of smoky wood that tells of a gun that has spent decades sitting beside an open fireplace and getting lots of use.

For those who have been there, it was like walking into the White Horse Tavern in Newport RI :-).

Nice.

My Dad’s Savage 99 smelled like that when I was first introduced to it when I was about 8.

Strangely, the Winchester 94 that he gave me when I was 14 smelled exactly the same way.

They say smells will bring back memories faster than anything else.
