New Years Day Shoot - Barrington NH - Major Waldrons
On Thursday Jan 1st PGCA members and Parker shotgun fans are invited to shoot both trap and skeet at Major Waldron's Sportsmans Association in Barrington NH. This will be the 6th New Years Day shoot.
Last year several club regulars joined us in the morning for shooting trap. This is due to the closure of a shooting in club in North Hampton NH that held a NYD trapshoot. It didn't create any issues and we will see them again this year. If the participants are willing and we have enough shooters we can once again hold a 27 yard "Protection" or "Annie Oakley" with a 10ga backing up a smaller bore gun. So if you have a big bore please bring it. We can also shoot an "Elimination", so bring your tightest shooting gun that can hit them after two others have missed and put them out of the game. The club will have hot dogs and coffee and if you would like share a dish pleae bring it. We have always enjoyed Bob Weeman's lasagna and Bill Janelle's venison chili. (Bill's chili is dependent on whether he shot a deer, good news this year, he got one). Directions to the club can be found here: http://www.majorwaldron.com/web/about/index.htm Shooting can commence at 9AM, doors will be open around 7:30 but I may be running around setting things up. Cost per round will be standard member and non-member rates of $4.00 and $5.00 accordingly. |
I'll be there for certain.... weather be 'darned'*...
*in deference to one of our moderator's preference of not using the word "damn" on the forum. i.e. - Adm. Dewey's quote, "Darn the torpedos - full speed ahead!" Or Rhett Butler's, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a darn!" Anyway, I'll be there regardless of the weather. |

No Sox fan ever referred to them as Those Darn Yankees.

TTT. So who from outside the immediate area may be coming to shoot with us on NYD? I am guessing, Dean Romig, Robin Lewis, Frank Cronin will be there, who else?
|
I plan on attending this year Pete.
|
Confirmed.

I'll be there, weather notwithstanding;]

Unpack "the hat" Dean, the weather forecast has us starting the day in single digits, even though it has been very warm so far this holiday season?

Hard to believe that 2015 starts tomorrow. The weather should be good but it will be cool as temps are predicted to be in the 20's for the day with some light wind putting the wind chill in the teens. This means Trap shooting will not require a BTFE :)
The ground is bare and walking is easy. There will be coffee and hot dogs and whatever dishes others bring. We will be able to shoot both Skeet and Trap and if there is enough interest we can play some games like Elimination and Protection on the trap field. Non-member rates are $5 per round. If you are coming to the club for the first time or forgot how to get here directions are here: http://www.majorwaldron.com/web/about/ Shooting starts at 9AM. See you there. |

It looks like it will be a little cooler than they predicted earlier. It's supposed to be 20 degrees with a wind chill of 9 degrees at 8AM tomorrow. Dress appropriately :)

I sure hope Bob is coming and has that hat with him.
Pete, can't you crop that picture so folks don't see me 'borrowing' Dunkle's forend? Sheeesh..... :o |
That picture of Dean would make a perfect cover photo for the Parker Pages. Anybody know the editor?
|
Ain't never gonna happen. I know the editor and he says "Fagadaboudit!"
|
Well, if the editor won't put it in the Parker Pages, maybe the big chief of this web site will make it the "Photo of the Month"??? Actually, I admire you for even being out in that cold, I would have stayed inside!
|
Or maybe we'll get a better one for him tomorrow.....
|
It's a balmy 18 degrees here at 6:25 but it's probably a tad cooler at Major Waldron's.

I'm bringing my deer hunting headgear. It's good for sub-zero weather... and then some.

Dean-O,
You really need to spend a few hours on Ancestry.com. Whenever I see that infamous "hat trick" photo, one image comes to mind. A distant relative perhaps or a scion to the stars? :bigbye: http://i1073.photobucket.com/albums/...o1021/Griz.jpg |
Is that Nanook Romig???? :rotf: Now that's funny!

Well 2015 was rung in today with some Parker's, and Elsie and Lefever or two. In attendance; Scott Kittredge, Dean Romig, Bill Janelle, Herb Hewlett, Allan Mclane, Robin Lewis, Rick Weik, Glenn Watts, Frank Cronin, Dave Suponski and myself. We were joined by some other non PGCA double gun shooters and a handful of club regulars in the morning. Temperatures were in the high teens when we started and just enough wind to make the skeet targets jump and dive at the wrong time. We shot both trap and skeet, on the trap range we suffered through Frank's booming BP loads out of his 5 frame 10 ga. Six of us shot a 10 backing up a 12 ga protection. I think Frank and Dean were the winning team but they could not keep count at each station and they shot at 30+ targets which sort of gave them an advantage. We all enjoyed some Billy Chili at lunch time as Bill brought a big slow cooker full of Venison Chili for all of us and Herb treated us to donuts in the AM.
Pictured are Frank Cronin and Dean Romig on the Skeet Field. |
Was it windy enough to blow Dean's hat off?
|
I remember that! I couldn't believe I missed that bird.... my only miss of the day as you can see by my expression of incredulity.....
Rick, I didn't wear a hat all day... that I remember. |
