Writing on forearm

Does anyone know why there would be a handwritten, in pencil 287 on the inside of SBT forearm? My SBT is a #238654.

It could be the last three digits of a serial number, or, it is an assembly number. Often, individual components of a gun are numbered to keep them all together during the manufacturing process, prior to the application of the actual serial number. I don't recall seeing any 'assembly numbers' on the parts of any of my Parkers, though.

Some previous owner made a run of 287 straight with the gun?

I received several guns from my fathers estate after he passed. They had his ssn# engraved on them. Seems it was a practice then, at least in the Midwest. This was done to identify the firearms if they were stolen. Perhaps the three digits were the last didgits of the previous owners ssn#. Funny in the 60's-70's, you etched your info on tools, firearms. Now you pay to hide everything?

In the 60's somebody might actually return it to you.

It may be related to the order number?
