New Mexico

Just got back from Southern New Mexico. It was a little strange with the Rona stuff. All the restaurants were closed and I had a guy try to open my truck door in the Albertson's parking lot at 7:30 in the am in Roswell. I spent the first day chasing scalies and found a fair number of coveys but their numbers are significantly reduced this year. Average covey size was 6 to 8 birds. My 8 month old setter June had a great day and it was a good experience for her. Never fired a shot at any scalies. Decided the next morning to head west to T&C. I found 8 coveys of Gambel's and 1 covey of scalies in a day and a half hunting.
I was gonna go to NM again in Feb but I've decided to skip NM and go further west to AZ because of the COVID 19 weirdness. |
What kind of dog boots is your setter wearing?

Beautiful pictures Shawn... but you had excellent subject matter!

I've used Lewis boots to some success. Quite involved to put them all but my setter is patient while I do it. Would hate to put them on a not so patient dog.

Lots of loonies out there, many emboldened by the current medical crisis, looking for cash, drugs, jewelry or weapons What did the guy want who tried to open the door of your truck? Hopefully you carry personal self-defense measures such as mace or pepper spray in your vehicle. I prefer short-barreled, large caliber handguns, particularly revolvers. Gives them time to reconsider while the cylinder rotates.

What beautiful birds. Nature really outdid herself on them. Thanks for posting...and be careful(!)
