1954 Era Browning Superposed Buttplate/Pad

4 Attachment(s)
Traded for this gun today at a local Grand Rapids MI gun show. It currently wears a nightmare pad on the Butt. Looking for suggestions for pad that would measure about the same for length of pull, and be somewhat proper for that time period.

Browning used a "Browning" labeled pad on their superposed magnum guns. I had one for a long time. Not sure how difficult it would be to find one.

Browning has a factory pad that was worn by a lot of their guns.
Looks like yours still has a curved butt. Why not try to find a butt plate?

So would the horn buttplate for that gun have the curve, from what I have heard the plastic buttplate didn't start till around 1960/61?

That gun is no magnum and was made with a horn buttplate on a curved surface. What is the length of your stock from the middle of the trigger to the middle of the wood at the butt? What is the exact width of the butt at it's widest point and the length of the butt without the pad installed? You might get lucky.

The LOP is 14" from the front center of trigger to center of the buttplate mounting surface or widest point on the butt. Width of the butt is 1 5/8" and the length is 5 1/4" Any suggestions for finding a correct plate for this gun? This is a 26 1/4" barrel upland gun.

I'd call the folks at Art's in Missouri.

The OP did not say anything about it being a magnum.

Everything about the look and measurements of that stock suggest it should be wearing a Buttplate. Fortunate for you it looks like nothing was altered. So, fitting up the prpoper plate would be a straight forward operation which will greatly improve the appearance, appeal and value of the gun.

No, Brian, another poster mentioned the magnum.

Art's will most certainly be able to help.
