Re-stocking a Parker Reproduction
Last year I became interested in SxS shotguns after a lifetime of shooting a Browning A5. I located and purchased a Browning BSS 20 ga. I shoot it very well and it seems to point very similar to my A5. I aslo bought a used Parker Reproduction 20 ga. I could tell immediately that I did not like the splinter forearm. After shooting it for a while, I realized that it has more drop in the stock than the guns I usually shoot. However, for some reason, I just want a Parker Reproduction. I have found that Parker Repro 20's with beavertail forearm are difficult to find. In addition, it seems that the LOP on most is a bit shorter than I like.
In short, I have been considering the option of having this gun re-stocked. I have a few questions: 1) what would be a ballpark price ?) beavertail forearm, longer LOP with less drop. Wood quality to equal factory stock. 2) will the trigger guard tang (angle / position) prevent changing stock drop? 3) would the factory stock have any value (recuperate some cost)? Does this sound at all reasonable, or is this a ridiculous idea? Lol |
IMO, it would be folly to do a complete restock of your gun. A quality restocking including stock and forend would be approaching the cost of another Repro in your desired configuration and there may be potential issues of putting beavertail wood on the unreinforced splinter iron.
My advice would be to continue looking, they are out there, and when you find one work a trade or sell yours outright. Have you seen the 20-ga. Repro with a long stock and beavertail forend that Champlin Arms is selling? P.S. What are the dimensions of your present Repro? |

Michael, maybe others will chime in but, based upon what I've seen..your DAC does seem quite high. (even amongst the Repro's)
Your other dimensions seem to be about normal. |
When you say the repro has too much drop, i think you mean not enough drop? Those dims are pretty high. And much higher than the standard drops of any A5, which you said fits you well.
