Opening Day Pictures

Ok Gentlemen and Lady's let's see a picture from opening day. For me it was slow going and I only took a half of a limit by 4:30 when the field was closed. Tom and Tucker Bulleit were shooting and I sent them this picture. Tom was a hospital Corpsman embedded with the Marines. We were both in I Corps in 1968, but didn't know it. I call him Doc and he calls me Chief.

We hunted a state managed dove field. This is only the second year PA Game Commission has relented and permitted the management of fields for dove. Last year there but a few hunters. This year it was packed and most of those I observed game new meaning to the term "sky busting". One guy I talked to said it was the first time he ever hunted doves. He was on his fifth box of shells and had three doves.
We did pretty good considering it did not take long for the birds to gain altitude. I shot a 1948 Win. model 12 20 ga solid rib skeet gun I purchased a few months ago. I bloodied it yesterday as it was unfired when I bought it. It was fun shooting a gun I started my hunting career with when I was 12. |
Harry, what's in that little pewter stein??

Dean, it's Bulleit bourbon with a sprig of crushed mint. Imagine hunting with the Bulleits!

Another hot and dry opening day in Arizona. My favorite three water tanks were dry so I found a new spot and did OK with the CHE. The heat and humidity finally did me in. It was nice to get out and to not worry about social distancing.

Mills was on the money with Kentucky Julep Cup. And Dean you were correct in that it is pewter. We have a shelf full of silver julep cups and I dare not take them off the porch least I get scalped. It was a bulleit on the rocks with a few refills. I wish I had taken pictures of the country ham and beaten biscuits.
