Serial number?

edgarspencer 04-21-2017 05:14 PM

My 1898 CH left the factory with barrels marked Titanic. It is now in the care of another member.

Dean Do not how to tell if the ejectors were added by Parker or some after market brand.

Daniel G Rainey 04-22-2017 08:56 AM

61854 is the number.

Quote:

the barrels had Parker Bros. Meriden ct. on the rib.
The rib markings changed from "MERIDEN, CONN." to "MERIDEN, CT., U.S.A." about WW-I time frame.

Can you show us some pictures of the sides of the frame in the hinge pin area, the 'knuckle' area of the front of the frame, and the underside of the forend?

Is this the subject gun?

If so... look at the end of the rib marking. The steel type has been clearly wiped out and the matting cut over it by hand.

These barrels are either sleeved, or blued over damascus. I vote the later based on what i see.

Daniel G Rainey 05-01-2017 07:21 AM

Yes. You hit the nail on the head. The lack of steel type on the barrels and lack of damascus barrels were warning signs to me. the ejectors were added and the forearm looked almost new.Loved the engraving on this 1890 gun, The price has dropped but I would be unsure of what I was getting.

Bill Murphy 05-01-2017 09:03 AM

It will have a D on the barrel flat. That would tell the whole story.
