Red Dot

Just flew up to CAC and picked up a load of stuff . And one of the items was an 8 pounder of Red Dot .

Already have a good decent 1 ounce 12 gauge load using Red Dot and the CB knockoff WAASL wad .
Now I wanna refine the 1 1/8 ounce 10 gauge load I've been messing with a bit .Think I have 10-12 pounds of the stuff now so I oughtta be in pretty good shape for a year or three .

Any Red Dot 12 gauge load should work in a ten gauge just fine.

or you could refer to the tested 1 1/8 red dot loads Craig and I have posted

I forgot the powder charge I sort of settled on but I've got the bushing in the press . I just need to settle on a way to get my crimp to suit me .

No my 12 gauge is a ounce load . I'm not gonna go any lower then 1 1/8 in the 10 .

Why ? One ounce will work for hunting or target loads. I shoot 1 1/16 or 1 oz loads all the time in my 10ga guns. You'll get nice patterns with a real short shot string. JMHO

Paul,

When shooting 1 oz of shot in the 10 ga, how many grains of Red Dot are you using? What size spacer in the shot cup?

Thanks,
Jack Kuzepski

19grs and I have many spacers - don't remember know how many it takes -enough for a good crimp.

For no other reason then that's what I wanted to put .

I won't argue, go for it.

To get a crimp to suit me with 1 1/8 ounces I used three 1/8" 16 gauge spacers so I would assume for 1 ounce you'd need atleast 4 .

Paul Harm 11-07-2017 08:56 AM

I load a 2 5/8 shell so it doesn't take as many spacers. I believe it's one 1/2".

I shot 4 rounds of skeet Friday morning three with my GH 16 and one round with my EH 3 frame 10 shooting the 19 gr Red Dot with 1 1/8 shot and I can honestly say the two I missed with the 10 gauge were no fault of the gun even though it's choked full and fuller yet . And the same can be said for the load it's fault free . Regardless of the load when you stop the swing ya misses the bird just read "skeet shooting 101" . After shooting that big heavy gun the first round with that pudding load my 16 gauge shooting ounce loads actually jumped a bit more . Dropped two with the 10 and 4 with the 16 for a 94 . Twenty years ago I'd have been livid for shooting that poorly now what the heck it's for fun :rotf:

When I shot the round of skeet Friday morning with the 10 two of the old geezers I was shooting with made reference to all the stuff coming from the end of the gun when I smacked the trigger

But I most certainly like that load . Seems about right for 10 gauge skeet , trap and dove . Couple of the fellows here that shoot Red Dot told me use it during warm weather as they had encountered some small problems when it was cold .
