WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Here are a couple photos of a gun that I believe to be a grade 1 or P grade " as it is stamped" but the serialization book shows none made in 28" twist, The letter says it is a quality "T" or 0 grade but it is plainly stamped "P" on the water table, Gary

My first reaction is: Who cares about the grade? Looks like a great, high condition Parker small bore.:shock:

To answer your question, though, my vote is a P grade. I would put the physical evidence over the evidence in the books

I got that wrong, the serialization book shows it as a P grade but the Parker story and letter I have show 0 grade

Todd Kaltenbach 07-19-2016 02:35 PM

Gary, can you show more pictures?

Jim DiSpagno 07-19-2016 03:04 PM

Gary, to me, a "P" grade equates to a quality 1. Therefore , PT equals Grade 1 with twist steel barrels. Top lever hammergun with dolls head extension. 20 gauge with 28" barrels and capped pg. very rare, possibly the only one made and considering the late serial number, a special ordered gun. Just my humble opinion. Jim

Earlier Grade-1 T/A check-hook hammer guns were made with Laminated Steel barrels and Grade-0 T/A check-hook hammer guns were made with Twist Steel barrels. That may be where the confusion in printed literature lies for this particular gun.

It is obviously a Grade-1 gun by the P stamped on the water table. Laminated Steel barrels had generally been phased out nearly two decades earlier, save for a few sets of barrels remaining in the back of the bin in Meriden that were used on very rare occasions until they were gone.

Gary, letters that use the order book for research only have the price of the gun to determine grade. Grade is very seldom mentioned in the order books. Often, it is a guessing game for Chuck.
