1/2 size frames.
 

Hi All.:)

My Parker is a vhe 12 bore made by Remington in 1936 and is on a 1/2 size
frame No 240830. I have a factory form which gives the custoner as a
Mr Tacey and shiped in 1937.
But my question is how many 1/2 frame guns are out there?.
How many have come out of the wood work as i have not seen any for sale.

david i dont know how many 1/2 frame guns they made but there scarce and few thats put up for sale on the gun auction sites.. looks like you have a very nice 1/2 frame..some of these other boys will pitch in when they get woke up good... charlie

according to the Parker Story, frame size was available in the stock books but was not included in the database used for statistics

some one may have an educated guess.

I find it interesting that the 1/2 was only (according to the story) available in 12 bore whilst the full 1 was also used for 16's and 20's

a long 16 on a half size might be a sweet handling gun.

I too would like a 16-30" on a 1 frame. But over here in the UK Parkers are like hens teeth. It took me 3 years to find my one and have only seen one very rough gun for
sale in the last few years. Although i did see a two barrel set for sale only 7 miles from
me but it was a Winchester repro so did not go for it.

I would say the 1/2 frames are rare. I have never seen one in person yet anyways. I appreciate you rocking the stars and stripes for us, but there is nothing wrong with the union jack either. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

The 1/2 frame has always been a subject of curiosity. Here is some highlight information on the 1/2 frame.

The frame size was developed in Meriden around 1930. This is based on surviving and dated factory drawings.
To our knowledge no Meriden manufactured (pre 1937) guns have been found made on the 1/2 frame.
There is no information that Remington actually manufactured any frames, so the belief is that a small run of the 1/2 frames were made in Meriden, but never used until after 1937 when Parker production was moved to Ilion, NY. Supply on 1 frames must have run low or out so the 1/2 frames were started to be used. This is based on the fact that very few 1 frame guns are found from Remington era.
PGCA member Craig Reynolds wrote an article in the Parker Pages about 4 years ago. He estimates that there were between 150 and 200 or so 1/2 frame guns made in Ilion.

Also, The Parker Story speculates that Serial number 226709, made in 1928, was an experimental 1/2 frame gun. This is not accurate. This number is experimental, but not a. 1/2 frame. For details on this gun, you can refer to an article I wrote in the Summer 2013 issue to The Double Gun Journal.

David, you should really access the Craig Reynolds article in the Parker Pages. Several of us provided him with research information on the half frame. The 16 gauge 1/2 frame is truly a wonderful gun. Mine is a wonder gun. It weighs the same with 12 or 16 gauge barrels. I'm sure you are enjoying yours. Rick Losey, anyone can build a half frame 16 gauge just like I did.
