DH partial restoration
 

Just this week I received my 12-ga. 2-frame 30" DH #155290 back from my friend and gunsmith Mark Beasland. This is the gun I was lucky enough to win at the 2008 U.P. S X S Classic, it had nine small dings/dents in the barrels and the finish on the wood was quite thin when I received it, so I had Mark remove the dents, refinish the barrels in the black and white finish, lightly refinish the wood and recut the checkering. I'm planning on shooting it in the Pigeon Ring event at this year's Yooper shoot.

That came out really nice, be a great gun for ducks.

Good luck in the pigeon ring! I've shot it and found it to be a tough event.

Yeah, Destry the Pigeon Ring is a hoot, it can be particularly dramatic if there's a breeze in the air, break a target on one side of the ring and the ribbon can be carried in the breeze all the way across the ring and fall just inside the ring--or just outside of it.

Dean, I am sure that Mark Beasland would want to let it be known that it was his capable shop assistant and daughter Sarah who actually recut the checkering.

A beautiful gun Greg! Looks like he did a fine job, and I know you will enjoy this piece for many years. I have one that is quite similar and I know that I just enjoy holding "history" in my hands. Enjoy. :)

Very nice looking gun. I have one similar to your's except mine has steel barrels. Is that a no-shoc pad on your gun? Mine also has lost all of it's case colors but I like the look of it just the way it is. Do you plan on having it re-case colored?

Greg, I'm not planning on having it re-colored. I believe that's a Galazan Correct Period Pad on my gun---it was on the gun when I received it. I actually prefer the Galazan Repro pad to an original S.W. Silver's in regards to recoil absorbtion as they are much softer. In regards to color the Repro pads are virtually indistinguishable from Silver's orange pads. Another benefit the Repro pad offers is flexability--right out of the package.
