Factory 16 ga barrels with beavertail fronds
 

Were any Win. Reproductions two barrel sets "factory built" with 16 ga and 20 ga barrels with beavertail forends?

If you can term the 16-ga. barrel sets as "factory built", it appears that 16/20 sets with beavertail forends were available.

When the 20ga Repros were beginning to lose interest, the "factory" began to offer sets with 16ga Krieghoff barrels. Those barrels were clearly marked as Krieghoff and had ribs that were not quite like the Jap repros. Others have since offered lesser quality 16ga barrels for the 20 frame guns. Think the seller here would have mentioned Krieghoff if these barrels were so marked.

The 16 ga. barrels in the Julia link are aftermarket Galazan barrels. Serial number on flat has been added by someone, probably not Galazan. Galazan stamped their serial number in same script style as the 16 gauge identification stamp and may have been removed here. Curent serial number looks poorly stamped compared to the 16 ga. identification stamping and not up to Galazan standards.

I'm not saying the above linked Julia 16-ga. barrel set are not Galazan supplied barrels. But, Tom, Sam or others, how do you know they were supplied by Galazan and not Krieghoff or some other barrel maker? They obviously have been brought up to A-1 Special standards with engraving, gold band, rib inscription, engine turning of the flats, etc., -- that is to say any original identifying marks, i.e. rib matting or stampings could have been struck off, right?

Do we know definitively where CSMC (Galazan) sourced their 16-ga. barrel sets from? Were they made up in-house or did they come from Krieghoff, Merkel, or some other source?

Greg - Most anything is possible I suppose, but not likely here. Why remove the firmly struck Krieghoff marks? Why not replace it with the PR mark if going to all the trouble you suggest? Tony had trouble delivering his 16ga barrels and I expect he took them from Merkel or anyone else that could deliver at right price.

In my opinion the Krieghoff barrels were far superior to the ones Mr. Galazan sold and I've owned both types. I'm not sure who made the barrels for Mr. Galazan but they certainly didn't have the fit and finish of the original barrels that were made by Krieghoff and sold with the 20 gauge Reproductions as a set. I've never seen a set of Mr. Galazan's barrels where the doll's head fit correctly.

Well said. My only experience was with Krieghoff barrels. They are excellent. My 28" K16 barrels were a few ounces lighter than my 26" PR barrels. Heard of many fit and finish problems with others as described above. The PR 20 with K16 barrels is a sweet gun.

I had an A1 Reproduction with three sets of barrels, one of which was a pair of Kreighoff barrels. I ended up trading that gun and have wished for it back several times.

Not sure if this is the exact thread for this response but here it is anyway - Attached are 3 photos of PR 20 gauge barrels with their markings. 1) 26” OEM barrel marked Q1/Q2, 2) 28” OEM barrels marked IC/Full (soon after purchasing the 2 barrel set I returned the M/F barrels to Skeuse to have right barrel opened to IC with same dye style and stamp placement as original markings) and 3) 28” aftermarket Galazan 16 gauge barrels with no indication of how it was choked. As not original to the gun I did send the barrels to Briley to install thin wall chokes.
