Frame pitting

If a frame has some minor pitting in it, I know it can be repaired, my question on that is does this necessitate recasing and possibly reengraving, or can the repair be done without those steps?

Bill

The casing and engraving are up to you and what you want it to look like,it is not a necessity.

This is just my opinion Bill, so take it with the grain of salt it warrants. If setting out to do anything like pitting repair to a frame, it'll usually go all the way. I've always been pretty bad for that regarding cosmetic issues, even before I got into Parkers and other more valuable types of firearms.

Brad, I figured it was a case of making it look correct and such. Thing is I actually like the look of silvered frame over cased frame.

But if the repair would look bad without doing it all the way that would definitely be worth doing.

If you want to do it right... The fame should be annealed, pitting rectified through polishing or welding. Engraving touched up if required and then frame re-cased.

Anything other than that is your prerogative.

Thx, I just wasn't certain what all was involved in repairing pitting to a frame so that is why I was inquiring. Thanks for all the help.

How bad is the pitting? Can you post some pics?

Bill Holcombe 11-04-2015 01:24 PM

Do not yet have it in Hand
Don't know that I will do it, depend on how it looks in person. Will have to get the barrels restored I know. The rest will have to see. Will post when I get it.
