Broken Recoil Pad
3 Attachment(s)
Hi Everyone,
Like many new members/visitors, I recently inherited a family heirloom Parker from my father. I spoke with a shotgun expert in Houston and was referred to this group as the most knowledgeable around. The gun is in generally good condition but has a broken recoil pad, which I would really like to fix (replace). Can anyone assist? The serial number is 105182 and I have attached a few pictures as well. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Thank you, Will Eyres |
Welcome to the PGCA forum. I know you'll soon be joining the PGCA as an annual member... It's only $40 and it will give you access to the Members Only section where you can buy/sell Parkers and parts for them.
That is actually referred to as a "dog's head butt plate". A recoil pad is a cushioned pad meant to absorb recoil. You should measure the length and width of yours and let folks know what it measures and somebody will likely have a decent duplicate of yours. Judging by the serial number you have given us I will bet yours has the 'spur' at the top that is inletted into the wood that's what you need to be looking for. Incidentally, there are three or four distinctly different styles of dog's heads on Parker butt plates so, in order to maintain the originality of your Parker, you should be sure to get an exact duplicate. As a last resort, there are reproductions available out there. |

Thanks for your prompt reply Dean. The plate measures 5" x 1.75" and does seem to be inletted into the wood (see attached picture). If anyone has one (even a reproduction as the gun has already been modified) I would love to get my hands on it.

They ALL need fitting. Both in the spur area and around the edges.

They can require a LOT of fitting in my experience.
