Ithaca question

OK, I was able to procure an Ithaca 12g 30" for the "right price" this weekend. When I looked up the serial # (234xxx), it came up as a Lefever Nitro Special from 1927. The gun has no Lefever markings but has the Ithaca Gun Co, Ithaca NY on the receiver. Did Ithaca make the Lefever Nitro Special with Ithaca Gun Co markings?

The number also lists as a Flues

Pictures would help

It is either one or the other. The Nitro Special is clearly marked. You probably have a Flues.

Only other markings are the barrels stamped with "Smokeless Powder Steel Barrels". I had Flues in the past and don't recall that stamped on the barrels.

Later flues were marked with the smokeless powder steel. I have a late 12 marked as such.

The flues would have a dog on the sides on the frame.

A nitro special has a goose on it and is marked so on the barrels.

The Field Grade Flues was made with Smokeless Powder Steel barrels from beginning to end. 1912-13 Ithaca Gun Co. catalogue --

Actually the earlier Field Grade Lewis and Minier Model Ithacas also had Smokeless Powder Steel barrels, as did the Field Grade NID's from their late 1925 intoduction to at least 1935.

I figured Mr. Noreen would know the answer. I do not have an early flues without composite barrels.
