Picked up a SPE 12ga for a song. Interesting gun. Straight grip, beavertail, single selective trigger, original Jostam pad.
I believe about 175 SP(E)'s were made in 12ga. So a gun not normally encountered. The stock and trigger guard have been properly redone, the bluing on the action and barrels appears original with almost no wear. I'm not a fan of straight grip, beavertail and single trigger but the "package" looks really great and is much better looking than a Model 21 Winchester in my opinion. It's really too bad Savage couldn't make a go of it in the marketplace.

and it looks just as good or better in person

but the moral of the story is to keep hunting - there are still treasures to be found by the diligent seacher

Tony could build you one of those, no problem.

Nice find Craig. And most anything is better looking than a 21.
The only thing uglier than a win 21 is a win 24.

Ive seen people say the Ithaca NID was the ugliest American made sxs , I was thinking they must have never seen a Winchester 21 .

Mr.Brian I would say the only thing uglier than a 21 is a o/u haha.

I know alot of people do love the 21s , I just prefer earlier sxs's ive always thought that somewhere after the 1930s or perhaps 40s that sxs's started to become less shapely and more boxy . Like alot of people love the Stevens 311 and I never thought that was a good looking gun . Everyone has their preferences , Ive seen people say Parkers are too complicated and not as good as a Purdey... Which I thought was kind of hilarious because Ive seen a Purdey fail on a quail hunt before . I had the picture on my Facebook account but I think it was removed by Facebook .

Likewise I think the Ruger Gold Label was a good looking sxs but theres people who think round body doubles are ugly . I still stand by o/u's not being attractive , to me its sacrificing having class to have a maybe a little more practicality . :rotf:

I enjoy all kinds of shotguns. I even use those pieces of "farm machinery" Winchester Model 12/42s, Remington 31s & Remington Sportsman.

Those old humpbacks are kind of special down here . I remember hearing stories of the old guys using them back in the 70s for quail and squirrel. Especially the sweet 16s . My friends grandad had one and he always got a little teary eyed when he would talk about hunting with his in years gone by . His son also had a sweet 16 and a Remington model 11 .

I'm not a Model 21 fancier as such , but we had a 21 16 gauge skeet gun in the shop a few years ago and I tried my best to buy it off the customer . That gun felt really nice in my hands !

As to NID's I've got an NID Grade 2 10 Super that I like just fine and I have all intentions of getting an Ithaca NID 10 magnum (preferably Grade 2 to match the other).

As to O/U I see NOTHING wrong with the old Browning Belgium made Superposed guns and happen to have a good sized covey of them at the moment in all gauges .

I also see nothing wrong with Remington Model 32's , Krieghoff K-32's K-80's and K-20's .

And it goes without saying the Boss Woodward and Purdey O/U's were in a class all their own .

Nothing wrong with liking what a person likes just be easy about the way one words it .
