J Foster 28 ga info

Trying to find information on a J Foster 28ga two barrel set. Beautiful little SxS, heavily engraved, beautiful wood. Can't find much on line. Any knowledge about John (I think) Foster as gunmaker?
Thanks!

I corresponded with John Foster in January 2019 about a nice 410 two barrel set with gold inlays that I was trying to buy. He could not provide any details other than that it was an A&D action. He did not have any records of the guns he built. The gun I was looking at was made in the early 1980’s. He sourced guns from various makers in England and Europe and then finished them for export. Sadly I believe John passed away later in 2019. Here are a few pics of the 410 I was looking into.

Patrick - I'm trying to figure out what's going on where the stock head meets the frame... Is the wood beveled or chamferred down to meet the contoured frame?

Dean,
Yes, it was beveled like that on both sides. I did not buy the gun as we could not determine an agreeable value. It was a neat little gun. Here are pics of both sides.

This is a Continental-sourced gun. And not stocked to Best English standards.

I visited with John on numerous occasions while working in England. I would always stop at the end of the day on my was back to Tutbury. It was always a refreshing stop, and I don't ever remember him allowing me to buy the next round. Geez do I miss a good local.

John Foster might have been best known as the premier barrel sleever in Great Britain. A few decades ago he built several guns, using Birmingham sourced parts and finished up by him. All I have seen were very nicely done. John died in the last few years and no one has succeeded him in business that I know of.
