Source for Keel?

Anyone have a source for a keel for a 20 gauge?

Dean Romig 07-13-2020 03:42 PM

I have a keel around here someplace but I have no idea what gauge it is for.... or even if there is a difference.

I'll look for it.

Thanks Dean. I have a little 20 gauge that had the dreaded gap. Barrels ring thankfully. I'd like to have it fixed the right way..

I may have a few kicking around.

Or one can just be filed up out of some scrap.

There really isn’t anything special about them. They were just mild steel bar stock, filed to fit.

Dean Romig 07-13-2020 05:49 PM

Were the originals filed concave on the three sides, or at least the two sides that contact the tubes?

Appreciate whatever can be dug up.

No. As edgar said, there really is nothing special about them.
They are just a triangular shaped wedge. They are just a filler that serve no other purpose other than just that.

Some keels removed from various Parker barrels.

That's interesting. I thought they would be longer and look the same on both ends. They look something that in a larger form would be used to split firewood. Thanks for posting
