Iver Johnson 410

I have a old Iver Johnson single shot 410. It's almost a hundred years old (my father got it in 1925) but it is in very, very good condition. It is chambered for 2.5" shells. How would I find out what is safe to shoot in it?

In very good condition, it can shoot any current 410 ammunition. I’d suggest AA skeet loads or something similar.

I’ve got an Iver Johnson double 410 not the skeeter but the field version that I assume is about the same age range as the little single pictured above . Mine has 3” chambers as well . But I don’t hesitate to shoot most any factory loaded stuff and my handloads of course . On a little bit off topic line I also have a Crescent Arms 410 double if I remmember correctly that’s only 2 1/2” and isn’t in quite a good a shape as my IJ anyway I shoot any 2 1/2” in it as well .

That brings back memories. I started hunting with my dad's old IJ 410 when I was about 6 years old. I shot my first birds with it including my first dove. My oldest son shot his first dove with it and his second daughter shot her first dove with it. I gave it to the granddaughter as I thought it fitting to pass it on to her.
