Pellet count vs. choke

Can anyone provide a reference on gauge and pellet count vs. gun choke rating?

Dean Romig 09-08-2020 10:00 AM

Depends on shot size. Easier way is the percentage of pellet strikes within a known diameter circle.

As Dean says

Choke is based on a percentage of the shot in a 30” circle at 40 yards (except for .410 I think)

Pick a pellet size and load. Count the pellets in that load and then fire a few at a pattern board - count the holes in the circle and average it out

BTW. Different pellet sizes may pattern a just a little different in the same gun. So go with the load you will use

Keavin is this what you are seeking ? I seem to recall a similar chart in TPS as well concerning the choke percentage figures.

Did Remington state the circle size and distance?

Every Remington Arms Co. hang-tag I've found states 30-inch circle, 40 yards --

But yardage and pattern size have no effect on the tables from the 1904-05 Remington Arms Co. catalog I showed.
