Pretty to start with, down right dangerous now, 1/2 inch of ice every where will continue till tomorrow, power out, have generator thank goodness, just hope no limbs fall on the vehicles cannot move them any way, think I will go down to the wine cellar and pop a cork! look at some Parkers to get my mind off this weather, Gary

I sure sympathize with you Gary. The ‘98 ice storm thes swept through the middle of VT, NH and Maine wreaked absolute havoc and destruction. I remenber it only too well.

We are getting a lot of snow in Pawling, NY and its not melting. Another snow storm tomorrow. I love the snow and like to see it but I worry about the deer if the snow continues to pile up without a thaw. I’m not worried about next years hunting, there are always plenty of deer. But I hate the thought of them slowly dying of starvation. We haven’t had a winter kill in many years. But this year we are getting a lot of snow.

This is an earlier picture taken in a timothy field before the snow began to pile up. The deer dig in the snow to get to the timothy. It gets harder as the snow gets deeper. The field is now really dug up, a lot more than when this picture was taken.

These are two of the four deer I took this year. I only shoot 3 ½ year old or older bucks.

Tom, I feed the deer in the winter 100lbs a week have 12-14 regulars at the piles each day I can whistle and they will come, sort of like Pavloffs dogs, do not know if that is the correct spelling of his name? I only allow 8 point or above to be taken and have several days in which to harvest does, we do not have the big deer like you guys do but occasionally we get a few 200 plus, Nice bucks you got there! I used to use the eight point rule also, but now I just limit my shooting to
three and a half years or older and antlers wider than the ears. I've seen some three and a half and older deer with less than eight points, although most are at least eight. The biggest deer ever taken on the property was a massive seven pointer.

A 200 plus deer is big anywhere. I would guess that most of the three and a half year old deer on the property are 170 to 180 pounds dressed.

I took a couple of pictures of the snow today. The shop on our airstrip is cleaned of snow but the trap range is snowed in. One of my friends flew in today with a Super Cub. He owns a commercial airstrip, Candlewood in Connecticut, and keeps his airplanes there.

I put the snow blower on the JD this afternoon. We're supposed to get it tomorrow evening through Tuesday morning. I feel your pain Gary, ice is bad news. Hope all ends well with no damage.

Randy, what is a JD? Are you referring to a John Deere? What model?

I had to get the beast out of the shed the other day. I don't think I have had it out for
two or three years.
