Sportsman Guide to Wild Duck

In the counterfeit duck thread I mentioned a booklet I picked up in our antique travels this weekend

its entitled "Sportsman's Guide to Wild Duck" by the Wildlife Management Institute of Washington DC - this copy is marked as "distributed through the courtesy of the Pennsylvania Game Commission", dated 1946 - is a foreword by Col. H. P. Sheldon and articles about the most recent studies on flyways and migration

the booklet is illustrated by Fred Everett- a fellow Southern Tier NY'er ( I always like his work in classic upland bird books) -

here are some samples of his work in the book

Those are great prints of waterfowl. I particularly like the pintails, as they claim they are in our most eastern flyway, but in may years of duck hunting I have never even seen one.:cool: If I ever shoot one Scottie will get some business!!

NFS I suspect?

I am a big fan of Fred Everett's art and writing.

Not only was he a great illustrator, he also wrote "Fun With Game Birds" and "Fun With Trout" and had planned to finish "Fun With Bird Dogs" but passed away before that could happen.

:rotf::rotf::rotf:

I JUST got it

I have both of his "fun with" book. And they are fun

Wonder where the unfinished bird dog manuscript went?

I wonder too...

I had a number of primarily waterfowl-based hunting books that I brought to Ernie's NE SxS but never got to put the out on the table due to space constrictions. Most of them are classic vintage books (Van Campen Heilner; Kortwright; Bruette, etc.). I will be posting them for sale in the coming weeks. Thanks, Kevin
