But not very fast --

Skitso my tiny English Setter turns 17 today.

Outstanding! Good for both of you and hopefully a few more years. My oldest will be 14 this winter. So far this summer he is getting along pretty well so I am hopeful he will be able to hunt some this fall.

The oldest I have known lived to be 21. In my opinion it should have been put down long before but she loved it and could not do it. She was a trainer and did trials. She nursed it until it passed. It was the same color as your dog.

That's quite an achievement for you and Skitso. Wonderful. just wonderful. I bet her small size has a bearing on her lifespan. We all should try that.

She still hunted some the fall she was 15, but since coming down from Alaska last August she has been pretty slow. Skitso has always had food in front of her and has never shown any inclination to over eat. Not so for her daughter Dasher or her granddaughter Daisy. Dasher was gone with congestive heart failure at 12.

Dasher in her younger days.

I was at a party Sunday at Daisy's home, and she is about twice as wide as Skitso. Her man can no longer walk due to long term effects of agent orange cancer having trashed the bone in his left leg.

WOW 17 what a milestone! Lost my last Britt at 16 years 3 months a couple of years ago. Still miss her but have finally pretty much quit dreaming about her. Crazy how we love our dogs.

I've never got a Lab much beyond 14, waterfowl gunning hereabouts rigorous. Each time the vet put one down, he'd say "the dog would thank you for it."

King, My oldest Lab was Mattie, she was 15 when we put her down, she was a tall lab and was never over weight, thus her longevity, Jolie on the other hand is 6 and 20 lbs over weight must get the weight off or she will lose several years, a sad day when you have to put a good dog down, gary

Wonderful!! We had a Gordon hunt until he was 16, and every second was a blessing. Give 'em a hug for me.
