10 ga paper hulls

While I was at an Allentown gun show a few weeks back I had noticed a dealer had some 2-5/8" "new unfired" green primed paper hulls. So I had inquired how much they were and the price was more than reasonable. I think they are for a flare gun, has anyone here loaded and shot these kind of shells before? The primers aren't covered over the flash hole.

Thanks,
Jack Kuzepski

Jack,
What is it about the shells that lead you to believe they are for a flare gun? What gauge are they and what is the makers name on the head stamp? Are they NPE's or fired hulls. Not sure I understand what you meant regarding the primer. Hoping to get a little education here, and could you post photo's?

I have a couple boxes of these myself: primed 10 gauge paper hulls marked for flare gun. Thought about loading black powder in them.

I'm going to try to find the shells in my shop, I'll post a picture when I do. I bought them then thought heck they're for a flare gun and pushed them in the corner. That's when I thought to ask if anyone else had loaded them, maybe they can be used. Yes ED the same thing 10 ga empty hulls, green in color.

If you suspect the primers are unsafe, punch them out and use new ones.

Thanks Bill, I don't know if they're unsafe but you can see right into the flashole. Might as well change them out as primers are cheap. Am thinking about 19 grs of Red Dot and Remington 10 ga wad with a roll crimp. With a 2-5/8" hull I don't think I have the room for a star crimp.

All I load is 2 5/8 with a star crimp. Some where around 22grs of GD, plastic wad, filler wad, and 1oz of shot. The fingers of the plastic wad will bend over with the shell when crimped.
